Quote:Mercury 3-0 Lakkvia
23' - A. Hanbury
42' - W. Fresnel
72' - M. Jolliffe

Mercury continued Lakkvia's dismal run of results with a well-earned win via a tweaked line-up. Looking to finalise their squad by next week's deadline, the Mercurians rotated to give others a chance of proving themselves and may have created some selection uncertainties with this performance. Mercury Premier League top scorer Addey Hanbury opened the scoring with a powered finish midway through the first half before William Fresnel's pace was too much just before the break, with the midfielder cutting in from the outside and passing two defenders before finding the bottom corner of the net. After further untaken chances to stretch the lead, Mercury did add a third in the second half through substitute Michael Jolliffe, who was found unmarked in the box from a Samson Yatesby cross for a glanced header. Mercury face Tellia on Saturday next as they continue their warm-ups while the Lakkvians' punishment for not qualifying ends after three defeats and no goals scored; a performance they will want to improve if they're going to have any chance of reaching the 2020 Copa Apollonia.

Mercury squad announced

Mercury have announced their 23-man squad that will travel to Birgeshir for this year's FMF World Cup. The team will be looking to take their second World title, following a perfect run during qualifying. Long-time staple of the back four, Ryan Bishop, will not be able to travel, after suffering a stroke last week, which gives 22-year-old Daniel Hannerby his first chance in the starting 11. Jonathan Foster keeps hold of the #1 jersey, and Premier League top scorer Addey Hanbury has managed to unseat Jack Partridge as starting striker, alongside captain Joe Foxon. Cook Island's Gareth Vader and Mercury City's Zachariah Stoker make the side for the first time, while Craig Bean and goalkeeper Ian Pratchett return to the squad, having missed out on last year's EMU Championships winning side.
