The Mercury Premier League will expand to 18 teams from the 2021 season onwards, the Mercury League has announced today. At present, Mercury has one of the shortest seasons of all of Micras' major football leagues, at only 22 games long. The expanded league will mean a fixture programme of 34 games. To allow for the change, six clubs will be promoted from the Second League automatically, with the last-placed Premier League club competing in a play-off against the seventh-placed Second League club.

The same format will be used to maintain the Second and Third Leagues at 12 teams, and the Fourth League will have promotion and relegation as normal. Six new clubs will be allowed to enter the Fourth League, in order to represent the regions of Mercury that don't currently have a team.
