Independent England leader Angela Pike casts her vote in West Grinstead South. She speaks out strongly against the mainland parties upon leaving the polling station, after the three main Mercurian parties, the Nationals, Conservatives and Labour, as well as the People's Front all formed a coalition against her party in the Nova English Witan following the 2014 elections.

Pike said "We go to the polls today to let our imperial dictators know that Nova England wants to be a free and independent country. This was clearly demonstrated two years ago, when the wishes of the people were ignored, and they now want their voice back. We will win the right to a referendum, and we will win our nation back."

Lunchtime on election day, and already more than 3 million votes have been cast. These numbers will slow down as we progress through the day, but with nine and a half hours of voting left, we're expecting the turnout to surpass 70%.

Just five hours of polling left to go. We expect a sudden rush of voters as people leave work, but with just short of 4.5 million votes cast, it appears that turnout may dip below 70% for the first time ever in a general election.

Voting has now closed in the 2016 general election, and it would appear from the exit poll that the Nationals have done enough to ensure a government. They will fall short of a majority, but once the seats for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as well as those for Lucerne and Qavaqaqqaqqaniitqeqertaq are taken into consideration, the National Party will hold an effective majority.

The Nova England exit poll also makes for some very interesting reading, with Independent England polling at 64%, with the Nationals only polling 17%.

NOVA ENGLAND/NOVA ENGLISH KOREA EXIT POLL
Independent England 25
Others 14

"Well, if that exit poll is correct, then Angela Pike will be very happy. They desperately wanted a comfortable majority in Nova England, and it would appear they have it."

Nova English Korea will be the first state to declare its full result.

The Mercurian Labour Party lose Port Barret North to the National Party, with no gains for Independent England. A disappointing result for Angela Pike, but Nova English Korea is generally a bit more welcoming to the Mercurians, so we'll have to wait for Nova England to declare.
